FATIMA was a Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation project aimed at improving the efficiency of water and nutrient use through precision agriculture technologies. By integrating Earth Observation (EO), wireless sensor networks, WebGIS-based decision support systems, and socio-economic analyses, the project developed innovative farm management tools for farmers, irrigation authorities, and policy makers, promoting sustainable agriculture while improving environmental performance and economic competitiveness.

FATIMA developed an integrated decision-support framework for agricultural resource management from farm to river basin scale. The project combined satellite observations, wireless sensor networks, and field monitoring within a WebGIS platform to support variable-rate fertilisation, irrigation scheduling, crop monitoring, and crop water consumption assessment. Multi-stakeholder participation, cost-benefit analysis, Water-Energy-Food (WEF) assessments, and policy analysis complemented the technological developments to promote sustainable agricultural practices across representative European pilot areas.
